Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

All scripture teachers at Karuah Public School use the syllabus “GodSpace” which is an approved curriculum by the Department of Education for teaching Christian SRE. GodSpace has also been approved by the mainstream Christian churches – Anglican, Catholic, Baptist, Uniting, and Australian Christian Churches.

In Scripture (SRE) classes, children explore the Bible and Christian beliefs and practices. They also hear Bible stories and inspiring contemporary stories of faith, all carefully chosen to help children explore spiritual and life issues at an age-appropriate level.

GodSpace is produced by Burst Christian Resources which is affiliated with the Baptist Church. For more information you can go to their website www.godspace.org.au

SCRIPTURE

Scripture is held every Monday between 1.55pm and 2.25pm. Students who do not attend scripture attend the library and are supervised by a teacher. During this time, non-scripture students are expected to engage in ‘personal study’ activities. Such activities may include homework, assignments or personal reading.

Further information regarding non-scripture can be obtained from department policy or by contacting the school directly.

If your child currently attend scripture and you do not wish them to continue attending, the school must receive written notification which states you wish to withdraw your child from scripture.
